Gatherers

In FFXIV, the gatherer classes are non-combat classes who are capable of gathering ores, plants, lumber, crystals, and ingredients for recipes as well as catching fish. The botanist and miner classes share very similar abilities so that, in general, a macro or rotation that works for one class will often work for another if you have them both at the same level and have learned the same abilities. However, the fisher class works very differently and would require a different set of macros.

Gatherer classes in FFXIV are often referred to as being “Disciples of the Land” since they gather things from the land. And, again, since they are non-combat classes, you should be careful not to go gathering in an area with a lot of hostile enemies high above your current level even if you do have Stealth turned on since you will not be able to defend yourself!

The current gathering classes in FFXIV are botanist, miner, and fisher. Like the combat classes, these classes are run by guilds contained in the three major cities and thus cannot be completely accessed until you have reached the point in the story where you are able to travel freely between the three cities of Ul’dah, Limsa Lominsa, and Gridania.

Gatherers also have a unique resource called “GP” or “Gathering Points” that they spend on many of their abilities to enhance the quality of an object they are gathering. Also, where combat classes rely on stats like “mind” or “strength” or “critical strike,” to determine how much damage they do, gatherers rely on stats like “gathering” and “perception” to determine if they can gather certain items and how high a quality they can gather them at.
